A Litany for Mothers

a mother's litany

From the belief that I am alone in my motherhood, deliver me Jesus.

From the belief that my productivity lies within a completed checklist, deliver me Jesus.

From the idol of business, deliver me Jesus.

From the belief that my husband and I are the same, deliver me Jesus.

From the self hate about all perceived shortcomings, deliver me Jesus.

That I am more than what I get done in a day, Jesus grant me the grace to believe it.

That the truth about who I am as a mother lies in the love of my children’s faces, and not in the world’s constant gaze, Jesus grant me the grace to see it.

That I am different from my husband as a parent, and there is a deep and blessed beauty in that, Jesus grant me the grace to believe it.

That I am right where I am supposed to be, doing all that You perfectly will for me to do, Jesus grant me the grace to own it.
