Comfort Me, Know Me, Hold Me
Lord, when I pray to You as my Father, do not allow my human mind to limit You to my human understanding of what it means to be father or mother. I pray that our limits of human language do not hide who You truly are to every one of Your children. You are Spirit, and Your form and Your nature are so much more than I can comprehend.
Yes, You are my Father, and yet, the Prophet Isaiah reminds me how You are also as a Mother to me. You “comfort me, as a Mother comforts her child” (Is 66:13). You know me and You will never forget me, just as a mother will never forget her child (Is 49:15). In the words of the Psalmist, I will find refuge “under Your wings” (Ps. 91:10) just like a mother bird guards her young.
Our world and our universe were created out of nothing. They were birthed into creation through Your Will and Your Love. Lord, the creative act of Your hand persists to this day. When You care for me though all of the ups, downs, and all-arounds of life, when You celebrate me by singing over me, when You hold me close to your heart, My God, that is when I am reminded of how much I am loved.
