Advent Week 3: Prayers & Practices for Parents

Advent practices with kids

Easy Advent Practices: Week 3

This year we’re sharing easy (and free!) ways to deepen your prayer as a parent in Advent: an activity to share with your children and a Scripture verse for you to pray later.

Pray before you buy for each person on your Christmas list. Or keep a prayer list of grandparents, nieces and nephews, aunts and uncles, friends and neighbors, teachers or caregivers. “So we, who are many, are one body in Christ, and individually we are members one of another” (Romans 12:4).

Take a walk or drive to enjoy local Christmas lights together. Add cocoa and popcorn to make it extra-special. Later pray with Ephesians 5:8: “For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Live as children of light, for light produces every kind of goodness and righteousness and truth.”

Bake a favorite family recipe with your child. As you eat and enjoy together, share memories of the relatives who first shared this recipe with you. “For God satisfies the thirsty, and the hungry he fills with good things” (Psalm 107:9).
