… Benjamin Luke, born Monday, July 24th.

8 lbs, 3 oz, 20.5 inches. Healthy and here. We are all in love with him.

When I think of Benjamin’s birth story, the word that rises up is peaceful. An unexpected induction made for a long, slow labor. (The exact opposite of his brothers’ fast and furious births.) But despite moments of medical drama, his arrival turned into a beautiful birth and a smooth recovery.

My favorite midwife came to catch him, the same one who climbed into my hospital bed and wept with me after Maggie and Abby died. The nurses were so compassionate about our family’s history, and we even ran into a nurse who remembered caring for me after the surgery to try and save the girls. The room where we rejoiced in Benjamin’s birth turned out to be right next door to the room where we grieved Maggie and Abby’s deaths.

In short, our time in the hospital was blessed with quiet grace.

Healing and healthy and hopeful.

Time and thought are now tucked into the dream state of newbornland. So rest assured that anything new you’ll read here in the next few weeks was written well before baby’s arrival!

But I do have big news coming on Friday that I shared with subscribers in this month’s Mothering Spirit newsletter (sign up here if you haven’t already!). Another “baby” whose birth I’ve been waiting to share with you…

Till then, deepest thanks to each of you who has sent love and prayers our way over the past few weeks. All your messages have brought joy to us, and we’re so grateful to have our boy welcomed with such love.
